Preparing For A Winter Trip

When you already live in warm weather near the ocean, you want to make your travel plans to cooler places. Northern states with mountains and pine trees during the winter offer great snow skiing, snow boarding, snow shoeing, resort life in front of a fireplace and crisp, cool snow on the ground. It is beautiful. But if you have not traveled in these type of conditions very often in your life, you need to prepare yourself for the cold. It will get cold and you cannot stop it, so prepare and enjoy it.

When your friends tell you to pack warm clothes, it does not mean to pack an extra pair of cute socks, high heel boots, and a cute little lightweight jacket and fingerless gloves meant for style and not warmth. You will step from your temperature controlled airplane cabin and walk through the terminal. Commenting to everyone how beautiful it is as they laugh behind your back thinking about the moment you hit the outside air. You may feel like you are ready, but get ready for a big surprise.

When the doors open and you feel the fresh, crisp air for the first time, you eyes are going to freeze open in shock, you will take a surprised breath and your lungs will freeze, then you notice how you whole body is starting to shake. Do not worry too much. Soon it will be numb from the cold and any kind of touch from a loved one. They will all laugh and you will want to cry, but you will be afraid of tears freezing to your cheeks in great big drops.

So, before you leave go shopping or borrow the right clothing and shoes for the trip. You need a good coat. It can be in any pretty color you like, but you have to have a warm coat when you end up outside in the air. It should be fiber filled or down filled for the best warmth and have a condition ability to withstand cold to zero degrees. Next choose warm winter boots. Not for style with very high heels. Check with snow bunnies for the best boots or wait until you arrive and head to the nearest boot store for a good winter pair. If you are an adult they will fit you for years to come and then you can pass them on to your daughter so her friends do not laugh at her.

Buy good gloves. Not lightweight silk or thin cotton without fingers. You want the glove to cover your whole hand. If you are going to be skiing, choose ski gloves that will protect you on the slopes from frost bite. And always wear a good winter hat to keep warm. Your head and your feet are where most of the heat will escape from. If you feel unfairly treated because others are not wearing heavy clothing, it is because they grew up in the winter conditions and are adjusted to the cold. It takes a lot more for them to get cold. Now go out and enjoy a great winter trip.

Also, keep in mind that many burglaries occur over the holidays when many people are traveling. If this is you, be sure to contact a security system company for a quote. Protect your home! You don’t want a recreation of Home Alone.
